Man Lynched and Burnt by Angry Residents in Mithanga Village Over Theft Allegations

Tension gripped Mithanga Village in Vyulya Location, Mwala Sub-county, after a 40-year-old man met a brutal end at the hands of angry residents who accused him of theft.

According to witnesses, the man was caught red-handed stealing from a home within the village early Tuesday morning. Enraged by a string of recent thefts in the area, residents descended on the suspect, beating him severely before setting him ablaze. He died at the scene.

Confirming the incident, Vyulya Location Chief stated that the suspect had been caught in the act and that the mob took justice into their own hands before authorities could intervene.

“It is unfortunate that the residents chose mob justice instead of handing over the suspect to the police. We condemn this act and urge the public to report such cases through the right legal channels,” said the chief.

Cases of mob justice have been on the rise in parts of Machakos County, prompting renewed calls from leaders and human rights groups for public awareness on legal procedures and the dangers of vigilante actions.
