Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has launched a vibrant agricultural empowerment program in Masinga Central Ward and Kivaa. A total of 648 goats have been distributed to 32 farming groups, while another 10 groups have received 5,728 improved chicks—marking a strategic shift toward more profitable livestock and poultry ventures. Adding momentum to the initiative, 32 modern beekeeping kits have also been provided, equipping farmers with the means to harvest “nature’s golden income.” The mission? To transform local farmers into resilient, financially empowered entrepreneurs under the governor’s bold slogan: “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni.”
But this program goes beyond livestock. Machakos County is also investing in crop production. Through the Ministry of Agriculture, 198 bags of fertilizer have been distributed, along with 1,216 storage bags and key insecticides. These provisions are aimed at curbing post-harvest losses and combating crop diseases—persistent challenges that have plagued smallholder farmers for generations. The initiative supports a broader strategy to promote sustainable yields and modern agricultural practices that align with climate resilience and food security goals.
Importantly, the plan extends far beyond Masinga and Kivaa. Governor Wavinya’s comprehensive roadmap covers all 40 wards of Machakos County, with each set to benefit from similar programs. This county-wide agricultural revival seeks to blend traditional farming knowledge with smart innovations. The overarching goal is to position Machakos not only as food-secure but also as a national model of agricultural excellence. It’s a bold step forward at a time when food insecurity remains a pressing national issue.
During the launch, Governor Wavinya addressed residents with a spirited message. “I will not be distracted by political enemies who feel threatened by development,” she stated, reaffirming her steadfast commitment to public service. While critics linger in the background, Wavinya is delivering tangible change—one goat, one chick, and one harvest at a time. In Machakos, the message is unmistakable: the seeds of self-reliance are being planted, and the resulting harvest is one of empowerment.
