The eagerly anticipated Kitui County Agricultural and Livestock Show has been officially postponed to February 2026, the County Government has announced.
Speaking during a press briefing held at his office on Wednesday, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, the County Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, confirmed the change in schedule, attributing the decision to preparations for the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations, which will be hosted by the national government at the same venue.
“The agricultural show has been rescheduled to February next year to allow for the construction of a stadium that will host the national Mashujaa Day celebrations,” Dr. Kimwele stated.
The annual agricultural show is a major event in Kitui County, showcasing innovations and advancements in agriculture and livestock farming, and providing a vital platform for farmers, agribusinesses, and stakeholders to interact and share knowledge.
Dr. Kimwele emphasized the importance of the national celebration and expressed confidence that the temporary postponement would ultimately benefit the county. “While the delay may be disappointing for some, the infrastructure improvements being made in preparation for Mashujaa Day will leave a lasting legacy for Kitui County and enhance future events, including the agricultural show,” he said.
Construction work on the new stadium is expected to begin in the coming weeks to ensure timely completion ahead of the October 20 national holiday.
Farmers and exhibitors are encouraged to use the additional time to prepare and innovate, with the ministry promising a bigger and better event in 2026.
