Kindiki Reassures Public: No New Taxes in This Year’s Budget

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to economic fairness, assuring Kenyans that the current budget contains no new taxes.

Addressing residents at Mutomo Market in Kitui South during a local empowerment initiative, Prof. Kindiki stressed that the administration is focused on widening the tax base by enforcing compliance rather than increasing the burden on citizens.

“There are no additional taxes in this budget,” he stated. “Our focus is on ensuring that those who have been evading taxes begin to contribute their fair share.”

The Deputy President also issued a stern warning to individuals misusing public funds, emphasizing that the government will take decisive action against corruption. He revealed that resources recovered from such efforts are being redirected to vital development initiatives, including road infrastructure, market upgrades, and rural electrification projects.

The assurance comes at a time when many Kenyans are closely watching fiscal policies amid rising living costs, with the government aiming to strike a balance between development goals and economic sustainability.
