Governor Malombe Champions Empowerment Programs for Youth, Women, and Persons with Disabilities in Kitui

Kitui County Governor, H.E. Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to inclusive development through targeted empowerment programs aimed at youth, women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

In a detailed update on the County’s achievements, Governor Malombe highlighted a wide range of transformative initiatives that are already impacting thousands of lives across Kitui. Speaking during a development briefing, the Governor emphasized that inclusive growth remains central to his leadership agenda under the “Kitui Promise.”

“Our administration has made deliberate efforts to ensure that no one is left behind. We are creating opportunities for women, youth, and persons living with disabilities to fully participate in the county’s socio-economic progress,” said Dr. Malombe.

Among the flagship interventions under his watch is the training of 2,000 youth, 1,000 women, and 600 PWDs on how to access the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) program an initiative that empowers marginalized groups to compete for government contracts.

Further reinforcing this economic inclusion agenda, the County Government has awarded contracts worth Ksh 404.8 million through the County Local Infrastructure Development Programme (CLIDP) to youth, women, and PWD-owned enterprises.

“This is not charity it is about equity and creating a level playing field. These groups deserve meaningful participation in economic development,” Governor Malombe added.

The Governor’s administration has also invested in quality of life and recreational infrastructure, having upgraded 21 playgrounds, benefiting over 20,000 young people across the county.

On the disability empowerment front, the county distributed 1,000 assistive devices and 600 wheelchairs to individuals with special needs an effort aimed at restoring dignity and mobility to some of the county’s most vulnerable residents. In addition, 8 PWD groups were equipped with 100-seater tents and chairs, enabling them to generate income through event-based entrepreneurship.

These achievements reflect Governor Malombe’s people-centered leadership and his determination to build a more inclusive and resilient Kitui County.

As he continues to deliver on his mandate, residents have lauded the Governor’s administration for walking the talk and bridging long-standing development gaps.

Governor Malombe concluded by urging beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunities provided and to work collectively towards a progressive and self-reliant society.

“We will continue to empower our people because a strong Kitui is one where everyone has the chance to thrive,” he affirmed.
