Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kelvin Kinengo on Saturday stood shoulder to shoulder with leaders and residents in bidding farewell to the late mother of Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai, using the solemn occasion to champion unity and accelerated development for Kitui County.
In a heartfelt tribute, Speaker Kinengo described the late matriarch as a woman of great wisdom, strength, and community spirit whose influence extended far beyond her family.
“This is not just a loss to Hon. Mbai and his family; it is a loss to the entire Kitui community. Her legacy will continue to inspire us as we work to build a better future,” he said.
Calling for unity among leaders, Kinengo pledged to work closely with President William Ruto and Governor Julius Malombe to deliver transformative projects across Kitui.
“Our people want progress, not division. I will work with the President and our Governor to ensure that Kitui moves forward in development, infrastructure, and economic growth,” he stated.
The Speaker further championed the need for Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to be accorded pension benefits, similar to MPs and Senators, arguing that county legislators serve with equal dedication and sacrifice.
Turning to infrastructure, Kinengo urged the national government to fast-track the deployment of a contractor to commence the long-awaited tarmacking of the Kyuluni–Zombe road.
“This road will change lives. It will boost trade, open up our region, and give our people the connectivity they have been promised for years,” he emphasized.
The farewell ceremony drew a large crowd of mourners, leaders, and dignitaries, united in honoring the life and legacy of the late matriarch and resonating with Speaker Kinengo’s call for solidarity and progress in Kitui.
