Kenya’s representatives in continental football, Kenya Police FC and Nairobi United, have learned their opening opponents following the 2025 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary round draws held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Kenya Police, returning to Africa’s premier club competition, will kick off their CAF Champions League campaign against Somalia’s Mogadishu City Club. The first-leg matches are scheduled for 19–21 September, with the return legs set for 26–28 September.
A win over the Somali champions would propel the Law Enforcers to the second round, where they would face either South Sudan’s Jamus FC Juba or Sudanese heavyweights Al Hilal, with a coveted group stage berth at stake.
For Nairobi United, the FKF Cup holders making their maiden appearance in continental football, history awaits. Drawn against Uganda’s NEC FC in the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round, the Naibois face a potentially mouth-watering second-round showdown with either Sudan’s Al Ahli Madani or Tunisia’s Étoile Sportive du Sahel should they advance.
The draw placed Nairobi United alongside seasoned regional competitors such as Rwanda’s Rayon Sport, Burundi’s Flambeau du Centre, Tanzania’s Azam FC, and Somalia’s Dekadaha FC underscoring the scale of the challenge.
Kenya Police will be aiming to improve on last year’s CAF Confederation Cup run, which ended in the second preliminary round at the hands of Egyptian giants Zamalek after an impressive first-round victory over Ethiopian opposition. With a more experienced squad and strong domestic form, they are targeting a long-overdue breakthrough into the group stages.
For both clubs, the rewards extend beyond prestige. Progressing deep into the competition promises significant financial gains and invaluable exposure on the continental stage. For Kenya Police, it is about redemption and progression; for Nairobi United, it is about proving they belong among Africa’s elite.
With the preliminary rounds looming next month, Kenyan football fans will be watching closely to see if the nation’s flag can fly higher in Africa’s biggest club tournaments.
