Governor Mutula’s Leadership Brings Water Relief to Kasikeu as Lumu Borehole Serves Over 2,000 Residents

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. has once again demonstrated his commitment to delivering lasting solutions to perennial water challenges in the county, following the successful completion of the Lumu borehole project in Kasikeu Ward, Kilome Sub-County.

The project, a partnership between the County Government of Makueni and development partner Welthungerhilfe (WHH), will directly benefit more than 2,000 residents of Lumu and Kalimbini villages who for decades endured crippling water shortages due to the unreliable Nolturesh water supply.

With the new borehole now operational, households in the area are assured of safe and clean water, marking a major milestone in Governor Mutula’s flagship Last Mile Water Connectivity Agenda.

“This project is not just about water. It is about dignity, health, and opportunity for our people,” Governor Mutula said in a statement. “We are determined to ensure that every Makueni household, no matter how remote, has access to safe and reliable water.”

The borehole, officially commissioned on Thursday by Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili alongside Water CECM John Kieti, Kasikeu MCA Reuben Nzai, and WHH officials, is fitted with six modern kiosks equipped with digital meters. This innovation is designed to curb revenue leakages, promote accountability, and guarantee sustainability in water distribution.

Residents hailed the county leadership for addressing one of their most pressing needs, noting that access to water will not only ease the burden of women and children who previously trekked long distances in search of the commodity but also spur small-scale farming and livestock rearing in the region.

The Lumu borehole is part of a broader framework Governor Mutula has rolled out to expand water infrastructure, including tapping high-yielding sources, modernizing supply systems, and prioritizing underserved communities. His administration has also strengthened collaborations with development partners to accelerate the realization of universal water access across Makueni.

As Makueni steadily cements its reputation as one of Kenya’s most progressive and people-centered counties, Governor Mutula emphasized that his government will remain steadfast in addressing basic needs as the foundation for socio-economic transformation.
