TikTok ‘Tycoon’ Nabbed in Ksh.130K Job Scam Targeting Kenyan Migrant Worke

A man who allegedly masqueraded as a close aide to Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has been arrested after defrauding a Kenyan woman of Ksh.130,000 in a job scam.

The suspect, identified as Abraham Kimeli, popularly known on TikTok as “City Tycoon,” was lured into the woman’s trust by projecting himself as a well-connected government insider capable of securing employment within the civil service.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the victim, a domestic worker based in Lebanon, first came across Kimeli on the social media platform in February 2024. Through charm and calculated deception, he introduced himself as Koskei’s personal assistant and promised her a lucrative government position upon her return to Kenya.

Investigators revealed that Kimeli went further to issue a forged Public Service Commission (PSC) document to legitimize the scheme before demanding “facilitation fees.” The unsuspecting woman, with the assistance of her employer, wired the money through Western Union, only to later discover she had been conned.

“The suspect painted a false image of himself as a key player in government affairs and used that to extort money from an innocent job seeker,” the DCI noted in a statement.

Detectives launched a forensic manhunt, eventually tracing and apprehending Kimeli, who is now in custody pending legal action.

The arrest comes amid growing concerns over fraudsters exploiting the desperation of Kenyan migrant workers seeking opportunities back home. Authorities have cautioned the public against sending money to individuals who claim to offer jobs in exchange for cash.
