Kitui Senator Enock Kiio Wambua has vowed not to be intimidated by threats or political pressure, insisting that even if his security is withdrawn, he will remain steadfast in defending the interests of his people.
Speaking on Friday at Kiuwi Grounds in Kitui West during a constituency prayer day, the senator said his resolve to speak truth to power will not be shaken by attempts to silence him.
“I will not bow to intimidation, even if they withdraw my security. My commitment is to stand with the people of Kitui and defend what is right,” he declared, drawing applause from the gathering.
Turning to the issue of insecurity in Mutha, Kitui South, Kiio challenged the national government to urgently resolve the persistent conflicts and threats that have plagued the area for years. He emphasized that the problem must be addressed before President William Ruto’s anticipated visit to the county.
“Before the President sets foot in Kitui, let him first deal with the insecurity in Mutha. Our people have suffered for far too long. This matter cannot be swept under the carpet anymore,” he stated.
The senator’s remarks come amid growing concern from residents over recurring bandit attacks and land conflicts that have left families displaced and livelihoods disrupted in parts of Kitui South.
Kiio reiterated that leaders have a duty to confront the challenges facing their communities without fear, noting that peace and security are a prerequisite for meaningful development in the region.
The prayer day, attended by clergy, local leaders, and residents, also provided a platform for calls for unity and collaboration among Kitui leaders in addressing the county’s socio-economic challenges.
