Kitui West Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Madam Elizabeth Atemi, has emphasized the need for unity, community-driven initiatives, and strong parental responsibility as schools prepare to reopen.
Speaking on Friday during an interdenominational prayer service held at Kiuwi Grounds, Atemi noted that the event, organized in collaboration with universities schools associations, churches, and local leaders, was meant to foster “homegrown solutions and soft power” in reaching out to residents.
“The importance of this prayer gathering is to remind ourselves that real change starts within our communities. By joining hands across institutions, leaders, and faith groups, we can strengthen our bonds and guide our children towards a better future,” she said.
As the new school term approaches, Atemi urged parents to ensure that all children report back to school, stressing that the government has already settled school fees. “No child should be left behind. Education is the key to our children’s success, and it is the duty of every parent to ensure their sons and daughters are in class,” she said.
In a firm warning, the DCC condemned cases of sexual violence against minors, vowing decisive action against perpetrators. “Anyone found engaging in the defilement or rape of children will face the full force of the law. We will not allow such crimes to destroy the lives of our young ones,” she declared.
The prayer meeting brought together hundreds of residents, with leaders calling for continued cooperation between government agencies, faith groups, and communities to address social challenges in the region.
