Nduundune Secondary School was the center of excitement this weekend as the Young Lions were crowned champions of the Thome Number One Youth Football Tournament, now in its second edition.
The tournament, organized by Thome Number One Professionals across Ilusya Location, brought together several teams in a spirited competition that went beyond football. The initiative is designed not only to promote sporting talent but also to empower young people through mentorship, education, and life skills.
This year’s edition placed emphasis on five key areas: career mentorship, drug abuse and mental health, building healthy relationships, scholarship opportunities, and nurturing talent in sports.
Organizers said the long-term vision is to connect learners with academic opportunities while also opening doors for athletes. Plans are already underway to invite scouts from major clubs in future editions to identify promising players for professional trials.
Speaking after the finals, Mr. Dennies Mukuu, Chairman of Thome No. 1 Professionals, addressed members of the press, praising the Young Lions for their discipline and determination, noting that their victory reflects the true spirit of the tournament.
“This tournament is not just about football it is about giving our young people hope, direction, and opportunities to succeed,” Mr. Mukuu emphasized. He further noted, “As Thome No. 1 Professionals, our mission is to guide and mentor the youth so they can realize their full potential, not only in sports but also in academics and personal development.”
The climax of the tournament was marked by a colorful prize-awarding ceremony, where participating teams were recognized for their effort and talent:
Position 1 (Young Lions) – Awarded one full set of uniforms and one ball.
Position 2 – Received one set of uniforms and one ball.
Position 3 – Also walked away with one set of uniforms and one ball.
Positions 4 to 7 – Each received one ball to continue sharpening their skills.
The success of the Thome No. 1 Youth Tournament has ignited optimism within the community, with many hopeful that it will grow into a launchpad for future stars both in sports and in education.
