Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has once again cemented his commitment to transforming lives, commissioning the Kwa Makau Borehole Water Project in Katithi Sub-location, Mavindini Ward, a development that now guarantees clean and reliable water to over 1,600 households across 15 villages.
The Ksh. 10.2 million project, implemented with support from Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH) under the Charity Water Mission, is a milestone in the governor’s broader agenda to tackle water scarcity, a challenge that has long burdened residents of the arid ward.
Governor Mutula underscored that access to clean water is not just a basic need but also a catalyst for improved health, education, and economic growth. He urged residents to safeguard the new infrastructure from vandalism, stressing that its sustainability will directly shape the community’s future wellbeing.
“This project is not just about water. It is about restoring dignity, improving livelihoods, and ensuring that every child can go to school without the burden of fetching water miles away. Let us protect it together,” Governor Mutula said.
The borehole project features a modern solar-powered system, a 50m³ storage tank, 12.5 kilometers of water pipeline, six water kiosks, two ablution blocks, and six PVC storage tanks strategically placed to enhance water distribution. Additionally, three primary schools have received dedicated water connections, ensuring learners access safe water within their institutions.
For years, Mavindini residents have walked long distances in search of water. With the borehole now operational, families can enjoy relief from the daily struggles of water scarcity, marking a new dawn of resilience and development.
The commissioning of Kwa Makau Borehole adds to Governor Mutula’s growing record of people-centered investments in water security, healthcare, agriculture, and youth empowerment, reaffirming his position as a leader shaping Makueni into a model county of sustainable development.
