DP Kindiki Announces Multi-Billion Development Projects to Transform Ukambani

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to accelerating development in the Ukambani region through a series of high-impact infrastructure and social projects.

Speaking after a meeting with Members of Parliament from Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni Counties in Karen, Prof. Kindiki revealed that the Government is finalizing the procurement process for the upgrading of six key roads to bitumen standards. He noted that the road projects will ease the movement of goods and people, reduce transport costs, and spur trade and economic growth in the three counties.

“These roads will not only improve accessibility but also open up new opportunities for investment and agricultural productivity, strengthening Ukambani’s role in contributing to the national economy,” said the Deputy President.

In addition, Prof. Kindiki highlighted ongoing last-mile electricity connectivity projects worth KSh 5.3 billion in Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni Counties. He emphasized that access to reliable electricity is critical in improving livelihoods, powering businesses, and enabling students to thrive in their education.

The Deputy President further cited several other development initiatives underway in the region. These include the construction of 40 fresh produce markets, multi-billion shilling affordable housing projects, and various community water projects supported through the Equalization Fund.

Prof. Kindiki assured leaders and residents of Ukambani that the national government remains committed to delivering tangible development that uplifts communities and bridges historical inequalities.

“Our vision is to ensure that no region is left behind. The investments we are making in infrastructure, energy, housing, markets, and water supply will transform the lives of millions of residents in Ukambani and beyond,” he said.

The meeting with MPs from the three counties focused on assessing the progress of ongoing projects, identifying gaps, and aligning development priorities with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
