ADRA Kenya took center stage during the celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day held at Nyuani Primary School in Mutonguni Ward, where leaders from national and county governments joined development partners and local residents to highlight the importance of empowering women for sustainable development.
The event, hosted by the Kitui County Government under the theme “Give to Gain,” brought together a wide range of leaders and stakeholders committed to advancing gender equality and community development.
Speaking during the celebrations, ADRA Kenya Project Manager David Kitheka and who was accompanied by madam Hellen Kasila, said the organization remains committed to supporting initiatives that uplift women and strengthen communities through sustainable development programs.
Kitheka noted that through the Nature+ Program, ADRA Kenya has been working closely with communities to promote environmental stewardship, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods. According to him, the initiative has demonstrated that empowering women with knowledge, resources, and opportunities not only strengthens families but also contributes to the protection of the natural environment for future generations.
He explained that the organization has witnessed first-hand how women play a crucial role in environmental conservation and community resilience, adding that supporting them is key to building sustainable communities.
ADRA Kenya also expressed appreciation to Julius Malombe, the Governor of Kitui County, for recognizing the organization’s efforts in promoting women’s empowerment across communities.
Kitheka said the recognition and support from the county leadership continue to encourage the organization and strengthen partnerships that make community-focused programs possible.
