Governor Malombe Commissions Nguni Bridge Culvert, Boosting Connectivity in Kitui South

Residents of Athi Ward in Kitui South Sub-County have received a major infrastructural boost following the commissioning of the Nguni River additional box culvert by Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe.

The project, implemented by the County Government of Kitui under Governor Malombe’s administration, is set to significantly improve connectivity and ease transport across the region, particularly benefiting residents who have long struggled to cross the river during rainy seasons.

Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Malombe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in transformative infrastructure projects aimed at opening up rural areas and enhancing economic activities. He noted that the additional box culvert will not only ensure safer and more reliable passage but also support trade, access to essential services, and overall development in Athi Ward and its environs.

“This project is a demonstration of our resolve to address the real challenges facing our people. Reliable infrastructure is key to unlocking economic opportunities and improving livelihoods,” the Governor said.

For years, residents of Nguni and surrounding areas have endured difficulties accessing markets, schools, and healthcare facilities whenever the river swelled during heavy rains. The new culvert is therefore expected to bring lasting relief and restore normalcy in transportation throughout the year.

Governor Malombe emphasized that his government will continue prioritizing development projects that directly impact wananchi, ensuring equitable distribution of resources across all wards in Kitui County.

Area MCA Muthama Musyoka Kieti, who attended the event alongside other county officials, lauded the Governor for the initiative, noting that the project will greatly enhance mobility and safety for residents.

The commissioning of the Nguni Bridge culvert adds to a growing list of infrastructure projects undertaken by the Malombe administration as it seeks to strengthen connectivity and accelerate development across Kitui County.
