The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), through its gender specialist Hellen Kasila, hosted a groundbreaking event at Kanyangi Sub-County Hospital in Kitui Rural, Kitui County, whit the theme : accelerating action towards gender equality.
The event brought together young mothers, young women, and community leaders to discuss ways of empowering women and ensuring their equal participation in community development programs. The initiative focused on helping women take up leadership positions, strengthening their economic standing, and fostering unity among them.
Speaking at IWD2025 ,Hellen Kasila emphasized the need to support young women in their journey towards self-reliance. “Gender equality is not just about giving women opportunities; it is about ensuring they are included in decision-making and development programs,” she said.
Empowering Women Through Community Engagement
Champions of gender equality graced the event, sharing inspiring stories with the young mothers and women present. Among them where women leaders , who spoke about the importance of economic empowerment in transforming lives.
The women leaders also addressed the gathering, offering words of encouragement. They urged women to unite, form groups, and take advantage of financial opportunities to start businesses. “Do not allow anyone to undermine you. You are important to the community, and your contributions matter,” they stated.
The event underscored the importance of financial independence, with speakers encouraging women to borrow money, invest in businesses, and fight for their rights. Participants were advised to embrace self-sufficiency and actively take part in community projects that uplift their social and economic status.
