Outrage as Killings Rock Kitui: Dr. Agnes Mawia Demands Answers Over Targeted Attacks on Women

Fear and anxiety continue to grip residents of Kitui following a disturbing wave of brutal killings targeting women, prompting strong condemnation from Kitui Woman Representative aspirant Dr. Agnes Mawia.

In a strongly worded statement, Dr. Mawia expressed deep concern over the recent murders, including the latest incident in Kalundu area where a young woman was found with multiple stab wounds, just days after another woman was discovered dead under similar circumstances in Slaughter Estate. She described the killings as “heinous, barbaric, and unacceptable in a civilized society.”

Dr. Mawia called on security agencies to move with speed and transparency in their investigations, demanding answers on what she termed as a “disturbing pattern” of violence against women in the county.

“We cannot remain silent as women are hunted down in such a brutal manner. The authorities must urgently establish who is behind these killings and whether women in Kitui are being deliberately targeted,” she said.

The aspirant further urged the National Police Service to intensify patrols, especially in residential areas, and to enhance intelligence gathering to prevent further loss of life. She emphasized the need for a coordinated approach involving forensic experts to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.

Residents of Kitui have been left shaken, with many now calling for immediate intervention to restore safety and public confidence. The back-to-back incidents have heightened fears, particularly among women, with growing concerns that the attacks may not be isolated.

Dr. Mawia also appealed to the community to remain vigilant and to cooperate with investigators by sharing any information that could help unravel the mystery behind the killings.

“This is not just about solving crimes it is about protecting lives. Every woman in Kitui deserves to feel safe in her own environment,” she added.
As investigations continue, pressure is mounting on security agencies to provide clarity on the incidents and to address the rising insecurity that has cast a shadow over Kitui County.

The police have assured the public that efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators, but for many residents, the urgency for answers has never been greater.
