Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has issued a sharp warning to local politicians he termed as “political scavengers,” urging them to stop exploiting international affairs for personal political gain.
Speaking during a high-profile visit to Kikima in Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County, Ruku emphasized the need for leaders to focus on tangible development issues affecting wananchi rather than riding on global narratives that have little impact on the daily lives of residents.

Ruku, who was accompanied by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse and rising political figure Michael Kisoi Munyao, used the platform to directly challenge what he described as the growing influence of the Wiper Patriotic Front in the region. In a charged address, the CS dismissed the wave as misplaced and out of touch with the real needs of the people.

“Leadership is not about chasing headlines from international politics while ignoring the suffering of your own people. We must remain grounded and serve wananchi with honesty and focus,” Ruku stated.

The event quickly turned into a show of political strength for Munyao, who is increasingly positioning himself as a formidable contender for the Mbooni parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Elections. Residents who gathered in large numbers expressed their support for the youthful leader, declaring their readiness to back “one of their own.”
Chants and slogans filled the air as locals openly distanced themselves from external political influences, signaling a shift in the constituency’s political landscape. Many described Munyao as a grassroots leader who understands their challenges and has consistently demonstrated commitment to community development.

Hon. Mwengi Mutuse echoed Ruku’s sentiments, calling for unity and a renewed focus on empowering local leadership. He urged residents to remain vigilant against leaders who seek to divide communities for political mileage.
Analysts view the developments in Mbooni as a significant realignment ahead of the 2027 polls, with Munyao emerging as a central figure in reshaping the constituency’s political direction.
As the political season gradually gains momentum, Ruku’s remarks and the strong endorsement of Munyao by residents underscore a growing demand for issue-based politics and homegrown leadership in Mbooni.
