A growing wave of concern over rising femicide cases in Kitui has ignited fresh calls for urgent government intervention, with 2027 Women Representative aspirant Hon. Fridah Makasi taking a leading role in mobilizing women across the county.
In a powerful and emotionally charged group initiative under the banner Kitui Voice for the Voiceless, Makasi led hundreds of women in formally petitioning security officials to act decisively against what they described as a “disturbing and unacceptable surge” in killings targeting women.
The petition comes in the wake of four recent femicide cases that have sent shockwaves across communities, sparking fear, anger, and renewed demands for justice.
Speaking during the petition drive, Makasi did not mince her words, calling out what she termed as systemic failure and slow response from authorities. She urged security agencies to move with speed and seriousness, emphasizing that women in Kitui deserve to live without fear.
“We cannot continue burying our daughters, sisters, and mothers while those responsible walk free. Enough is enough. The lives of women matter, and we are demanding immediate action,” she declared.
The group’s demands are clear and firm: enhanced policing in high-risk areas, expedited investigations into reported cases, and the introduction of targeted protection measures for vulnerable women. They have issued a 14-day ultimatum to security officials to respond and outline concrete steps being taken.
Makasi’s bold leadership has not gone unnoticed. Many residents and observers are now increasingly describing her as “the real deal,” citing her grassroots connection, fearless advocacy, and ability to rally communities around critical social issues.
Political analysts note that her growing influence, particularly among women and youth, could significantly shape the 2027 electoral landscape in Kitui.
As pressure mounts on authorities to act, the women of Kitui, led by Makasi, have made it clear that they will not relent in their fight for justice and safety.
“This is not just a petition it is a movement,” Makasi affirmed. “And we will not stop until every woman in Kitui feels safe and protected.”
The coming days will test the responsiveness of security agencies, but one thing is certain: a new and formidable voice has emerged at the forefront of Kitui’s fight against gender-based violence.
