Dr. Julius Malombe has unveiled an impressive development scorecard showcasing major achievements realized under his administration since taking office in 2022.
Speaking during the third Kitui County Executive Working Retreat held at PrideInn Flamingo Beach Resort and Spa, Governor Malombe said his government had successfully implemented 2,931 projects across all the 40 wards and 247 villages under the “Kitui Promise” development agenda.
The governor highlighted major progress in water, health, agriculture, education, roads, trade, and youth empowerment, saying his administration remains committed to transforming livelihoods across Kitui County.
In the water sector, Malombe pointed to the Kshs. 840 million Kangukangu Water Supply Project that now serves about 100,000 residents through a 224-kilometre pipeline network and 52 water kiosks. The county has also constructed 26 sump wells and hundreds of sand dams to improve water accessibility.
In healthcare, the governor praised the establishment of the Phangisile Mtshali Cancer Centre, which has already served more than 7,600 patients. He added that the county had strengthened community healthcare by equipping over 2,400 Community Health Promoters with smartphones, bicycles, and medical kits.
On education, Governor Malombe announced that 1,688 ECDE teachers had been employed on permanent and pensionable terms, while over 33,000 learners benefited from bursary support worth Kshs. 244 million under the Pro-Poor Education Support Programme.
The governor further highlighted major infrastructure achievements, including grading over 7,000 kilometres of roads, installation of 2,462 solar streetlights across urban centres, and construction of modern markets and irrigation projects.
In agriculture, the county trained more than 827,000 farmers and vaccinated over 1.1 million livestock to improve food security and protect pastoral livelihoods.
Governor Malombe also noted that own-source revenue collection had increased significantly from Kshs. 361 million in 2022 to Kshs. 996 million in 2025, attributing the growth to automation and improved financial management systems.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, saying the county government would continue prioritizing service delivery, economic empowerment, and sustainable development for the people of Kitui.
