Kenya Law Reform Commission Gains Devolution Voice as Mutula Kilonzo Jr. Joins Commission

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has officially been sworn in as a Commissioner of the Kenya Law Reform Commission, marking a significant step in strengthening legal and constitutional reforms in the country.Governor Mutula, who currently serves as Vice Chairperson of the Council of Governors Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee, was nominated by the Council of Governors before his appointment was formally gazetted by Attorney General Dorcas Oduor through Gazette Notice No. 5589 dated 17 April 2026.He took the oath of office alongside Ms. Annette Imbuhila Wangia on 20 may 2026, with both Commissioners set to serve a five-year term.The swearing in ceremony, held in Nairobi, was witnessed by Chief Justice Martha Koome, who lauded the appointments and emphasized the Commission’s critical role in advancing the vision and values enshrined in Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.Governor Mutula’s appointment is widely expected to enhance ongoing efforts toward progressive legal reforms, strengthen devolution, and promote greater social justice and equity across the country.ENDS///…
