Incoming Kitui Governor Hon. Nicholas Mulila has called for a new standard of political leadership in Kitui, urging residents to demand accountability and evidence of service from leaders seeking their support.
Mulila made the remarks during his grassroots engagement with community pillars in Kanziku and Mutha, where he continued his efforts to strengthen his connection with residents at the grassroots level.
He said the people of Kitui should not be swayed by leaders who appear during election seasons with promises but fail to explain their previous contribution to the county.
Mulila challenged his competitors to tell residents what they had done for the people of Kitui and to explain their record of service.
He said it was not enough for a politician to travel across the county making promises without showing what they had already achieved.
“Before you make new promises to the people, tell them what you have done. Tell them where you have worked and what you have achieved for the people of Kitui,” Mulila said.
He maintained that the county needed leaders who could be judged by their actions and results, rather than political speeches.
The remarks came as grassroots pillars in Kanziku and Mutha pledged their support for Mulila, promising to work with him as he seeks to become the next Governor of Kitui County.
The leaders said they had identified Mulila as a leader who was willing to engage directly with the people and discuss the issues affecting them.
Mulila said his grassroots consultations would continue, adding that the future of Kitui must be shaped through direct engagement with residents across all parts of the county.
He said the people deserved leadership that was accessible, accountable and focused on delivering meaningful change.
The growing support from Kitui South comes as Mulila continues to expand his grassroots network, with his message of accountability increasingly becoming a central feature of his campaign for the Kitui governorship.
