Makueni County is set to benefit from development projects worth over KSh 8 billion in the upcoming 2025/26 national budget, according to Hon. Mwengi Mutuse, Member of Parliament for Kibwezi West and a member of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee.
Speaking during a public participation forum held in Makindu, Hon. Mutuse emphasized the importance of involving citizens in shaping the national budget. The forum, convened to gather residents’ views on key development priorities, was chaired by Hon. Jematiah Sergon, the Women Representative for Baringo County. Other leaders in attendance included Hon. Eng. Thaddeus Nzambia.
“In the 2025/26 budget, Makueni County is allocated projects worth over KSh 8 billion, including over KSh 1.9 billion for the completion of Thwake Dam,” Hon. Mutuse announced. He added that the county is set to receive additional funding based on the insights collected during the day’s engagements.
The Emali-Ukia road emerged as a top priority, with residents strongly advocating for its tarmacking. “From today’s event, it was clear that the tarmacking of the Emali-Ukia road is a key priority for the people of Makueni,” Mutuse said. “We have carefully listened to our constituents and will ensure that most of their priorities are included in the budget.”
Hon. Mutuse expressed gratitude to the residents for their active participation and the clarity of their development needs. “Asanteni sana, people of Makueni, for your wonderful contributions. I was very pleased with the clarity regarding needs in water, education, roads, housing, and land titling.”
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to ensure the voices of Makueni residents are well represented at the national level. “May God bless us all,” he said.
The public participation forum reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to foster inclusive planning and ensure equitable distribution of national resources across counties.
