A total of 302 hospitality workers from Makueni and Machakos counties graduated on Friday after successfully completing a two-week upscaling training program aimed at improving service delivery in the tourism sector.
The training, sponsored by the Tourism Fund, was designed to equip participants with modern skills in customer service, food and beverage handling, housekeeping, hygiene, and sustainable tourism practices. The goal is to meet evolving industry standards and enhance overall visitor experiences.
The graduation ceremony was held at Wote Technical Training Institute and was presided over by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Trade, Marketing, Industry, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Sonia Nzilani. The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Scott University Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Daniel Barante, Tourism Fund Trustee Mr. Patrick Ngere, and Machakos CECM Mr. John Kilonzo, among others.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Nzilani emphasized the significance of the initiative, describing it as a critical step in building a skilled and competitive workforce. “By equipping frontline hospitality workers with skills, we are directly investing in the growth and sustainability of the tourism industry,” she said.
The program reflects a broader commitment to professional development in Kenya’s hospitality sector, reinforcing its role in economic growth and cultural promotion.
