Kitui County Health Chief Urges Residents to Seek Early Cancer Screening

The Chief Officer for Medical Services in Kitui County, Dr. Benson Musyoka, has called on residents to present themselves early for cancer screening, emphasizing the importance of early detection in the fight against the disease.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of the late Jonson Mwanzia Muli, who succumbed to pancreatic cancer, Dr. Musyoka stressed that cancer is treatable when diagnosed in its early stages. The ceremony was held in Kalimani Village, Matinyani Ward, Kitui West.

“I urge both men and women to come out and get screened. Early diagnosis is key in treating cancer effectively,” Dr. Musyoka stated.

He further revealed that the Kitui County Referral Hospital has already attended to more than 300 cancer patients, a figure he said highlights the need for increased awareness and preventive health practices across the county.

Dr. Musyoka’s remarks come amid growing concerns about the rising number of cancer cases in Kitui and across the country, with healthcare professionals advocating for regular screening as a critical step in combating the disease.
