Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has issued a stern warning against those promoting ethnic, regional, and religious disharmony, describing them as a serious threat to Kenya’s unity, security, and stability.
Speaking during the Kitui Central Constituency Economic Empowerment Programme held at Ithookwe Grounds in Kitui Town, Prof. Kindiki emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering national cohesion and advancing economic transformation across the country.
“Merchants of ethnic, regional, and religious disharmony are a serious threat to the unity, indivisibility, security, and stability of our country and must be rejected by all citizens of goodwill,” he stated.
Prof. Kindiki highlighted the strides made by the Kenya Kwanza administration in fulfilling the promises made during the 2022 general elections. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving the livelihoods of Kenyans, particularly those engaged in micro and small enterprises such as Mama Mboga, hawkers, boda boda riders, and Jua Kali artisans.
“We are on course in the fulfilment of the commitments made in 2022 to uplift the socio-economic status of all Kenyans and dignify the daily toil of Mama Mboga, hawkers, boda boda riders, Jua Kali artisans, and other micro and small enterprises that are instrumental in the growth of our country,” said the Deputy President.
Citing tangible projects under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), Prof. Kindiki noted that the construction of 400 modern and ESP (Economic Stimulus Programme) markets, electrification of more households, and the completion of stalled road projects were key pillars of the administration’s development blueprint.
He further announced that in Kitui County alone, 16,000 additional households are being connected to the national electricity grid at a cost of KSh 2 billion. Out of these, 2,000 households in Kitui Central Constituency will benefit at a cost of KSh 200 million.
“These initiatives are not just statistics; they are transformative efforts to bridge historical gaps in infrastructure and opportunity,” Prof. Kindiki affirmed.
The Ithookwe event, aimed at bolstering economic empowerment among women, youth, Jua Kali workers, and boda boda SACCOs, was attended by a host of national and regional leaders. Present at the function were National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Majority Leaders Kimani Ichung’wah (National Assembly) and Aaron Cheruiyot (Senate), along with several Members of Parliament from across the country.
Other notable attendees included Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai, Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule, Tharaka MP George Murugara, Samburu North MP Eli Letipila, Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi Pepela, and Principal Secretary for Livestock Development Jonathan Mueke. Members of the Kitui County Assembly, led by Speaker Kelvin Katisya, also graced the occasion.
The Deputy President concluded his address by urging continued collaboration among all levels of leadership to deliver meaningful change to the grassroots and uphold the spirit of national unity.
