Yamu Vows to lead push for Malombe’s Senatorial Bid if Legal Loophole Bars Second Gubernatorial Term

Matinyani Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Hon. Silverster Munyalo Kitheka, popularly known as Yamu, has made a bold political declaration regarding the future of Kitui County’s leadership.

Addressing a public gathering in Matinyani , the outspoken MCA vowed to lead a strategic campaign to have Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe ascend to the Senate in 2027—should constitutional limitations prevent the veteran county boss from seeking a second term.

Yamu stated that in the event there is no legal provision (lacuna) enabling pioneer governors who returned to office after a break to contest again, then he and a team of what he termed as “wise and progressive leaders” from Kitui County will rally behind Dr. Malombe for the senatorial seat.

“Governor Malombe has offered unmatched leadership and development-focused governance. If the law will not allow him to seek re-election as governor, then we, as Kitui people, will not let his experience go to waste. We shall go for him and make him our next senator,” declared Yamu.

The MCA praised Malombe’s track record, highlighting infrastructure development, health service improvements, and inclusive leadership as some of the hallmarks of his administration. He insisted that the county cannot afford to lose such tested leadership due to a technical legal limitation.

The debate on whether pioneer governors who served between 2013 and 2017 and returned to office in 2022 can vie again in 2027 has been growing in political circles, with no conclusive legal position yet.

Hon. Yamu urged Kitui residents to remain united and alert, emphasizing that the focus should be on retaining visionary leadership regardless of the position held.

“Leadership is not about positions; it’s about service. Whether as governor or senator, we shall ensure Governor Malombe continues to serve Kitui County,” he added.

The statement has stirred political interest across the county, with analysts interpreting Yamu’s remarks as both a show of loyalty to Malombe and a strategic move in shaping Kitui’s 2027 political landscape.

As the clock ticks toward the next general election, the question of Malombe’s eligibility for a second term as governor may become a defining issue in Kitui politics.
