Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, on Saturday morning conducted an inspection tour of key infrastructure projects in Kitui County, ahead of the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for October 20.
Speaking after touring the Ithookwe Stadium currently under construction and set to host the national celebrations Dr. Omollo assured the public that the facility will be ready in good time. He revealed that the stadium is designed to accommodate up to 10,000 people, making it one of the most significant venues ever developed in the county.
“We are confident the stadium will be ready for Mashujaa Day. It is a project that symbolizes the government’s commitment to inclusivity and national unity,” said Dr. Omollo.
The PS also visited the site where a new ministate lodge is being constructed to host visiting dignitaries during national events. In addition, he inspected the Ithookwe Airstrip and a series of roadworks surrounding Kitui Town all part of an ambitious infrastructure rollout intended to transform the county’s accessibility and preparedness for major events.
“These three major projects the stadium, the ministate lodge, and the airstrip are not just for Mashujaa Day; they are investments in the long-term growth and visibility of Kitui County,” Dr. Omollo emphasized.
He further underscored the importance of equitable development, stating, “We want every part of the county to feel the impact of government projects. No region should be left behind.”
The projects are expected to boost the local economy, improve transport connectivity, and enhance the county’s capacity to host national and regional events in future.
Dr. Omollo’s visit comes amid heightened preparations by both national and county governments to deliver a memorable and inclusive Mashujaa Day celebration, the first ever to be held in Kitui County.
