Governor Wavinya Champions Innovation at National Hackathon in Homa Bay

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti  underscored the critical role of technology and youth-driven innovation in transforming governance, as she joined fellow leaders in launching the Innovate 254 Hackathon at Tom Mboya University in Homa Bay County.

Governor Wavinya, who has been a vocal advocate for digital solutions to improve public service delivery, joined host Governor Gladys Wanga of Homa Bay, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, and ICT Principal Secretary Eng. John Tanui in flagging off the high-energy event.

The hackathon, themed “Hacking 48 Governments in 48 Hours”, has drawn some of the country’s most talented tech innovators to compete in developing cutting-edge systems aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and citizen engagement across county governments.

Speaking at the event, Governor Wavinya lauded the initiative as a bold step toward positioning Kenya as a continental leader in digital governance. She emphasized that county administrations must embrace emerging technologies not only to streamline operations but also to empower citizens and improve service delivery.

“This is the future of governance  smart, tech-enabled, and citizen-focused. When our young people innovate, counties transform,” she remarked, urging participants to think beyond the competition and develop solutions that will have lasting impact.

The two-day challenge will see innovators work round-the-clock to pitch viable tech-based solutions to a panel of judges, with the most promising ideas expected to receive support for further development and implementation in county governments.

Governor Wavinya’s presence and strong backing for such initiatives reaffirm her commitment to positioning Machakos  and the wider country  at the forefront of technological advancement in governance.
