Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti has called out the county’s Senator for what she termed as “sleeping on the job”, accusing her of using the critical health sector as a political playground instead of pushing for adequate funding to support devolved health functions.
Speaking firmly, Governor Wavinya reminded the Senator that the people of Machakos will not allow politics to jeopardize access to healthcare, warning that such behavior is a betrayal of the very electorate the Senator represents.
“I urge my sister, the Honorable Senator of Machakos, to focus her efforts on ensuring that funds are fully aligned with devolved functions, a step that will go a long way in resolving the recurring challenges facing our health sector in Machakos and beyond,” the governor said.
The blunt remarks reflect growing frustration over what the Governor described as deliberate attempts to undermine her administration’s commitment to improving health systems by turning essential services into political talking points.
Governor Wavinya stressed that Machakos residents elected leaders to deliver, not to engage in endless squabbles.
“Health is not and will never be a campaign tool. We have lives to save and hospitals to strengthen. Anyone trying to drag politics into this important sector is completely out of touch with the needs of our people,” she added.
She reiterated that her administration has prioritized healthcare and will continue implementing reforms to equip hospitals, deploy medical personnel and strengthen community health networks.
In a sharp warning to political leaders, the Governor noted that the people of Machakos are watching closely and will not tolerate leaders who hide behind political theatrics instead of doing their job.
Governor Wavinya concluded by urging national leaders, particularly Senator, to play their oversight role responsibly and advocate for increased budgetary support to counties instead of stoking unnecessary political confrontation.
