Governor Mutula Champions Bold Reforms to Cement Makueni as Kenya’s Benchmark in Integrity

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has stepped up efforts to position the county as a national model in transparency and accountability.

On Tuesday, the Governor held a high-level meeting with senior officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), led by Commissioner Alfred Mshimba, and the GIZ team led by Judy Oduma, aimed at laying a solid foundation for corruption prevention and enhanced performance in public service.

Governor Mutula emphasized that his administration is committed to going beyond rhetoric to institutionalize proactive measures that block corruption at source. “This county will not wait for investigations and prosecutions  we are building systems that prevent corruption before it happens,” he said.

Top on the agenda was the establishment of a County Corruption Prevention Committee in line with the EACC’s 2023 guidelines. Once in place, the committee will spearhead the development of frameworks to mainstream integrity across all county departments, promote a culture of accountability and minimize leakages in service delivery.

Governor Mutula further welcomed the EACC–GIZ collaboration, terming it a timely boost to his administration’s reform agenda. The partnership focuses on structured, sustainable solutions rather than reactive approaches.

“We appreciate the support of EACC and GIZ in helping us strengthen systems. Makueni must stand out as the county where public resources are protected and every shilling counts,” said the Governor.

The visiting delegation commended the Governor for his proactive leadership and commitment to clean governance.
