Kitui Senatorial Race Takes New Shape as Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya Declares Bid

Kitui County’s political landscape has taken a new and decisive turn following the formal entry of County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya into the senatorial race. Katisya declared his bid to vie for the Kitui County senatorial seat in a high-profile and emotionally charged ceremony held at his rural home in Musavani Primary School, Tseikuru Ward.

The declaration was made during a colorful thanksgiving ceremony that drew leaders and residents from across the county and beyond. In a symbolic gesture underscoring his faith and commitment to community development, Speaker Katisya dedicated the thanksgiving offering to the Independent Pentecostal Church (IPC) to support the completion of its church construction project.

Addressing the gathering, Katisya said his decision to seek the senatorial seat was driven by a deep desire to offer transformative leadership, strengthen devolution, and ensure Kitui County gets a stronger voice at the national level. He emphasized unity, servant leadership, and inclusive development, noting that the Senate remains a critical pillar in protecting county interests.

“This journey is about service, sacrifice, and purpose. I believe Kitui deserves firm, focused, and fearless representation in the Senate,” Katisya told the cheering crowd.

The event attracted a distinguished lineup of leaders, including the Bomet County Assembly SpeakerHon. Cosmas Kipngetich Korir
and the Kwale County Assembly Speaker,
Hon. Seth Mwatela Kamanza who also serves as the Chairperson of the County Assemblies Forum (CAF). a clear indication of Katisya’s growing national networks and cross-county goodwill. Also present were Kitui County Government officials, several Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), national government leaders, clergy, opinion leaders, and professionals from different sectors.

More than 1,000 residents of Musavani and surrounding areas attended the ceremony, turning it into a massive public endorsement of the Speaker’s senatorial ambitions. Songs, prayers, and traditional performances filled the air as residents praised Katisya for his humility, accessibility, and steady leadership during his tenure as Speaker.

Political observers note that Katisya’s declaration significantly reshapes the Kitui senatorial contest, positioning him as a formidable contender with both grassroots support and institutional experience.

As the 2027 political season gradually gains momentum, all eyes will now be on how the Speaker’s entry influences alliances, campaigns, and the broader contest for Kitui County’s top political seats.
