Kitui County Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe on Tuesday commissioned the newly constructed Kitui County Public Service Board (CPSB) block, marking a major milestone in the county’s efforts to strengthen institutional capacity, promote professionalism and enhance service delivery under the devolved system of government.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Malombe delivered a powerful address in which he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a professional, ethical and efficient public service. He emphasized that a strong and independent public service is the backbone of sustainable development and effective service delivery to the people of Kitui.
“The commissioning of this facility is not just about opening an office block; it is a clear statement of our commitment to good governance, accountability and professionalism in the management of human resources in Kitui County,” said Governor Malombe. He noted that the modern CPSB block will provide a conducive working environment, enhance records security and enable the Board to effectively execute its constitutional mandate of recruitment, promotion and discipline of county public officers.
The Governor further stated that investing in institutions that support efficient governance remains a key pillar of his administration, adding that the new facility will strengthen institutional efficiency and support the independence of the County Public Service Board in serving wananchi with dignity and integrity.
Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani also addressed the gathering, delivering a strong message on the importance of teamwork, integrity and dedication to public service. He described the CPSB block as a timely and strategic investment that will improve coordination and operational efficiency within the county public service. Kanani urged public officers to uphold high ethical standards and remain focused on delivering tangible results for the people of Kitui.
Kitui County Public Service Board Chairperson Dr. Florence Makindi commended the County Executive for supporting the project to completion, noting that the new offices will significantly enhance the Board’s ability to operate independently and professionally. In her remarks, Dr. Makindi reaffirmed the CPSB’s commitment to merit-based recruitment, fairness, transparency and accountability in the management of county human resources.
“This facility will greatly improve our working environment and enable us to discharge our mandate more effectively, in line with the Constitution and the expectations of the people of Kitui,” she said.
Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, who was also present at the event, hailed the commissioning as a major boost to institutional governance in the county. He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to fast-tracking any pending legislation that strengthens county institutions and commended the County Executive for notable progress in service delivery across the county.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by members of the County Executive Committee, chief officers, members of the County Assembly and other senior county officials, underscoring the significance of the occasion. Leaders present unanimously described the new CPSB block as a critical step towards entrenching professionalism, efficiency and accountability in Kitui County’s public service.
The newly commissioned CPSB offices are expected to enhance service delivery, improve staff welfare and further consolidate good governance as Kitui County continues to implement its development agenda in line with the principles of devolution.
