Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has lodged  ten graders one heavy duty  machine and two  rollers at Mutituni, Machakos County, in a major boost to the county’s flagship Barabara Mtaani programme aimed at improving road infrastructure at the grassroots.
Speaking during the official rollout, Governor Ndeti said the deployment of the road construction equipment was a deliberate move by her administration to take development directly to the people.

“Today we are lodging graders and rollers here in Mutituni so that road works can begin immediately at the village level,” Governor Ndeti said. “This is part of our Barabara Mtaani programme, which is meant to ensure that no ward is left behind when it comes to access roads.”

The governor noted that the machinery will be used to open up new roads, rehabilitate impassable feeder roads, and maintain existing ones, especially in interior areas that have for years experienced poor connectivity.
“Good roads are not a luxury; they are a necessity,” she said. “When we improve our roads, we improve trade, agriculture, access to schools, and access to health services. This is how real development begins.”

Governor Ndeti further emphasized that the programme has a strong employment component, saying local youth will be engaged in road works under the initiative.
“Our young people will benefit directly because they will be part of the workforce maintaining these roads. Through this programme, we are creating jobs while also building our county,” she added.
County officials who accompanied the governor said the lodging of the equipment in Mutituni will serve several surrounding wards, ensuring efficiency and timely response to road maintenance needs.

Residents welcomed the move, terming it a long-awaited intervention that will ease transportation challenges, especially during the rainy season when many roads become impassable.
As she concluded her address, Governor Ndeti assured residents that her administration remains focused on practical, people-centered development.

“We will continue to invest in programmes that touch the lives of our people directly. Barabara Mtaani is about dignity, opportunity, and moving Machakos forward from the grassroots,” Governor Ndeti said.
The rollout in Mutituni marks another milestone in the county’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure and accelerate socio-economic development across Machakos County.
