Makueni County has formally installed a new County Public Service Board, marking the beginning of a renewed push for professionalism, efficiency, and institutional reforms within the county workforce.
At a ceremony held in Wote, Benjamin Kioko Kasamba took the oath of office as the Chairperson of the Makueni County Public Service Board, becoming the third individual to hold the position since the county’s establishment. His appointment follows the expiry of the constitutional term of the previous board.
Kioko assumes the role with extensive experience in public administration and county governance, having previously served as a Chief Officer in the Kitui County Government. His tenure in Kitui exposed him to the inner workings of county governments, including human resource management, policy implementation, and service delivery frameworks.
This background positions him as a steady and informed hand to lead the board at a time when counties are under increasing pressure to deliver tangible results to citizens.
Sources within the county administration say Kioko is expected to prioritize merit-based recruitment, discipline, and performance management, drawing from lessons learned during his years in senior government service. His understanding of intergovernmental operations and public sector reforms is anticipated to strengthen institutions and restore confidence among county employees and residents alike.
Also sworn in during the ceremony was distinguished auditor Silvestor Ngei Kiini as a member of the board, adding financial oversight expertise to the team.
The appointments followed a thorough vetting process by the Makueni County Assembly, reinforcing the credibility of the new board and its leadership.
Speaking during the event, leaders underscored the need for responsibility in the use of public resources, particularly tools and machinery, and called for a culture of accountability within the county service. The new board was further challenged to recognize and reward exemplary employees who demonstrate dedication and outstanding performance.
With Benjamin Kioko Kasamba now at the helm, expectations are high that his experience, institutional knowledge, and results-driven leadership will reshape Makueni County’s public service, enhance efficiency, and place the county on a stronger path toward sustainable development and responsive governance.
