Waziri Generali Fredrick Kimanga on Friday joined family, friends, and residents of Kitui West at Mithikwani Village, Kwa Mutonga, in Kithumula Ward, to condole with the family of Mr. David Mutie following the death and burial of his wife, the late Felistus Mwende.
Speaking during the burial ceremony, Kimanga expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, urging them to remain strong and united during the difficult moment. He described the loss as painful not only to the family but also to the wider community, noting that Felistus Mwende was remembered as a supportive pillar within her family and village.
The incoming Kitui West Member of Parliament in the 2027 General Election used the occasion to address broader social issues affecting the constituency, with a strong emphasis on education. Kimanga sharply criticized the management of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursary allocations, lamenting that needy students were receiving as little as KSh 2,000—an amount he said was barely equivalent to bus fare and insufficient to support meaningful education.
He contrasted the situation with Kiharu Constituency, where, according to him, parents contributed only KSh 500, highlighting what he termed as glaring disparities in bursary distribution and prioritization. Kimanga emphasized that such inequalities continued to disadvantage students from Kitui West, limiting their chances of academic success.
Reiterating his long-held stance, Kimanga stressed that education remained the backbone of development and the surest path to transforming the constituency. He noted that no area could achieve sustainable progress without investing heavily in education, adding that leaders must place the interests of learners first if communities were to break the cycle of poverty.
“As a constituency, we must understand that education is the key. If we want Kitui West to move forward, education must be given first priority,” Kimanga stated.
The burial ceremony drew residents from across the ward, many of whom echoed Kimanga’s sentiments on education and called for more transparent and equitable management of public resources meant to support students.
Kimanga concluded by reaffirming his commitment to championing education reforms and social justice, promising to continue standing with the people of Kitui West both in times of sorrow and in the pursuit of long-term development.
