New Makueni Public Service Board Sworn In as Governor Mutula Rallies for Integrity and Workers’ Welfare

The Makueni County Public Service Board is now fully constituted after three newly appointed members were sworn into office during a ceremony presided over by Mutula Kilonzo Jr. in Wote.

Josephine Mbena Mwau, Zebedee Mwandi and Deborah Mutheu Kyalo took the oath of office for a six-year term in an exercise conducted by the County Attorney and witnessed by Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili. Their appointment completes the board, setting the stage for strengthened management and oversight of the county workforce.

Governor Mutula challenged the board members to uphold the highest standards of integrity and decisively stamp out malpractice within the public service. He warned that no employee should take shortcuts or engage in unethical conduct under their watch, stressing that discipline and accountability must define the county’s workforce.

The governor underscored that human resources remain Makueni’s greatest asset and a key driver of social and economic transformation. He directed the fully constituted board to prioritise staff welfare, noting that a motivated and well-supported workforce is essential for effective and people-centred service delivery.

He further called for the swift implementation of a clear rewards and sanctions framework to recognise hardworking employees while enforcing accountability among those who fail to meet expected standards. According to the governor, fairness, merit and professionalism must form the foundation of public service in the county.

Deputy Governor Mulili urged the board to entrench professionalism in its operations and remain sensitive to both the county’s development goals and the growth of its staff. She emphasised the importance of aligning workforce management with the broader vision of transforming Makueni through efficient and accountable governance.

The swearing-in marks a significant step in reinforcing governance structures in Makueni County, with expectations high that the board will champion reforms aimed at improving service delivery and safeguarding workers’ welfare.
