The governor, who presided over the event today, noted that the operational theatre marks a significant milestone in improving access to quality and specialized medical care for residents of Kanyangi and its surrounding areas. The facility, upgraded by the County Government of Kitui, is already offering surgical services, a move that has greatly reduced the need for patient referrals to distant hospitals.
Dr. Malombe emphasized that the investment in the theatre is part of his broader agenda to enhance healthcare infrastructure and ensure residents receive timely and efficient medical attention within their locality. He added that the county government remains focused on equipping health facilities with modern equipment and skilled personnel to meet the growing demand for services.
“The operationalization of this theatre is a major step towards bringing essential surgical services closer to our people. It will ease the burden on families who previously had to travel long distances seeking treatment,” said the governor.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by a section of Members of the County Assembly led by Kanyangi MCA Bonface Katula, alongside County Executive Committee Members led by Health and Sanitation CECM Ruth Koki. The leaders lauded the governor’s efforts in prioritizing the health sector, terming the project as transformative for the local community.
Residents are expected to benefit from improved healthcare outcomes as the facility continues to offer critical surgical interventions, further positioning Kanyangi Level IV Hospital as a key referral centre within the region.
