Governor Julius Malombe has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development after commissioning the Ngunga River Drift, a key infrastructure project set to transform mobility and economic activity across Kitui South.
The newly completed drift, which links the areas of Yongela, Kithuki, Enzou, Mesilya, and Kwa Toma, is expected to significantly ease movement for residents who have long faced challenges crossing the seasonal river, particularly during the rainy seasons. For years, communities in these regions have struggled with limited accessibility, affecting trade, access to education, and healthcare services.
Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Malombe emphasized that strategic infrastructure development remains central to his government’s agenda of uplifting livelihoods and fostering equitable growth across all parts of the county.
“This project is not just about connectivity; it is about unlocking opportunities for our people. By improving access between these areas, we are enabling trade, enhancing access to essential services, and strengthening the local economy,” he stated.
The Ngunga River Drift stands as a testament to Malombe’s hands-on leadership and focus on practical solutions that directly impact wananchi. Residents lauded the governor’s efforts, noting that the project will eliminate long detours and risky crossings that have previously hindered daily activities.
Local leaders present at the event echoed the governor’s sentiments, highlighting that improved infrastructure is a critical driver of development in rural areas. They noted that the drift will facilitate smoother transportation of goods, boost agricultural productivity, and enhance social integration among the connected communities.
Governor Malombe reiterated that his administration will continue to prioritize infrastructure investments as a foundation for sustainable development. He assured residents that more projects are underway across the county, aimed at strengthening road networks, improving water access, and supporting economic empowerment initiatives.
As Kitui County continues to witness steady progress under his leadership, the commissioning of the Ngunga River Drift marks yet another milestone in Governor Malombe’s broader vision of a well-connected, economically vibrant, and resilient county.
