Governor Wavinya Ndeti Leads Swift Response as Machakos Stands Strong Against Flood Crisis.

The County Government of Machakos has once again demonstrated decisive leadership and compassion under the stewardship of Governor Wavinya Ndeti, following severe flooding that displaced over 100 households in Githunguri, Muthwani Ward, within Mavoko Sub County.Amid ongoing heavy rains affecting various parts of the country, Governor Ndeti moved with speed and urgency to safeguard her people. Emergency response teams were promptly deployed to the affected area, successfully evacuating residents from flooded homes to safer grounds and ensuring that no lives were lost. This rapid intervention underscores the Governor’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and livelihoods. In a coordinated effort, officers from the Department of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, alongside teams from Special Programmes, conducted a comprehensive fact-finding mission to determine the root causes of the flooding. The exercise aims to inform sustainable, long-term solutions that will shield communities from similar disasters in the future.Beyond immediate rescue efforts, the county government extended a helping hand to affected families by distributing essential food supplies and non food items. This humanitarian response reflects a leadership that not only reacts swiftly but also prioritizes dignity and care for residents during times of crisis.Governor Ndeti has also taken this opportunity to call on residents to act responsibly and safeguard their own wellbeing. She urged the public to refrain from encroaching on riparian land and waterways, emphasizing that such practices significantly increase vulnerability during heavy rains. Residents were further advised to remain vigilant, avoid high risk zones and always prioritize safety. In a forward-looking approach, the county government continues to advocate for responsible land ownership. Members of the public are encouraged to conduct thorough due diligence and consult relevant authorities before purchasing land, to avoid settling in unsafe or restricted areas.
Through proactive leadership, swift action, and a people-centered approach, Governor Wavinya Ndeti continues to reaffirm her administration’s commitment to building a resilient, safe, and responsive Machakos County even in the face of natural challenges. ENDS///…
