Malombe Delivers Water Relief to Mulango as Yambuu Supply Project is Commissioned.

Residents of Mulango Ward are set to benefit from improved access to clean and reliable water following the commissioning of the Yambuu Sumpwell Water Supply Project by Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe.

The project, which was implemented during the 2023/2024 financial year at a cost of KSh 10.5 million, marks another major milestone in Governor Malombe’s efforts to enhance water access and improve livelihoods across Kitui County.Speaking during the commissioning at Kathungi in Mulango Ward, Governor Malombe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in sustainable water infrastructure to address the persistent water challenges facing local communities. The Yambuu Water Supply Scheme has been connected to three existing water kiosks located at Kyumoni, Kathungi Market, and Mithongo. Currently, the project serves 53 individual water connections, with the potential to expand and benefit up to 120 households in the area.

The project consists of key components including the Yambuu Sumpwell, which abstracts 15 cubic metres of water per hour, a modern pumping system, pipelines, three water-drawing points, and storage tanks. These facilities are expected to significantly improve water availability for domestic use and other community needs.

Governor Malombe noted that water remains a key pillar in his administration’s development agenda, emphasizing that improved water access is essential for better health, economic growth, and improved living standards for residents.

Area MCA Mwanza Kitonyo and other local leaders were present during the commissioning ceremony and lauded the county government for prioritizing development projects that directly impact the lives of wananchi.

The Governor was accompanied by members of his Cabinet led by County Executive Committee Member for Water Peter Gitonga and Chief Officer Nathan Vungo, underscoring the county leadership’s collective commitment to ensuring water security for Kitui residents.
