H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to improving healthcare services across Machakos County through the commissioning of the expanded Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health Unit at Kangundo Level 4 Hospital.
The state-of-the-art 22-bed maternity unit, delivered through a strategic partnership between the County Government of Machakos and Safaricom, through the M-PESA Foundation, marks a major milestone in the county’s efforts to provide accessible, quality, and lifesaving maternal and newborn healthcare.
Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Wavinya Ndeti emphasized that investing in maternal and child health remains a top priority of her government, noting that every mother deserves safe delivery services and every newborn deserves the best possible start to life.
The modern facility is fully equipped to provide safe deliveries, emergency obstetric care, advanced newborn services, and comprehensive postnatal care within a dignified and well-equipped environment. The expanded unit is expected to significantly improve health outcomes for mothers and infants while reducing referrals to distant facilities.
Governor Wavinya noted that the project reflects the county’s continued commitment to strengthening Primary Health Care and ensuring that quality healthcare services are available closer to the people.
The partnership with Safaricom, through the M-PESA Foundation, underscores the value of collaboration in accelerating healthcare development and expanding access to essential services.
The commissioning of the new maternity unit represents another significant step towards achieving Universal Health Coverage in Machakos County, ensuring that more families receive quality, affordable, and timely maternal and newborn healthcare.
