An emotional moment unfolded at Katuni Village in Mutitu North, Mutitu/Kaliku Ward, Kitui East Constituency, as family, friends, teachers, leaders and residents gathered to bid farewell to the late Hellen Ndungi Matuvi, a teacher at Itiko Secondary School who was tragically murdered.
During the burial ceremony, Kitui East parliamentary aspirant Hon. Simon Katua Mutia, popularly known as “Mkombozi,” offered hope to the bereaved family by making a heartfelt commitment to support the education of the late teacher’s two children.
Addressing mourners, Hon. Mutia announced that he would fully cater for the school fees of the two children, who are currently studying at Mutitu Comprehensive School, saying that no child should be denied an education because of the painful loss of a parent.
He described the killing of the teacher as a heartbreaking tragedy that had robbed the community of a dedicated educator and left two young children without their mother’s care. He urged the community to stand together in supporting the bereaved family during this difficult period.
Hon. Mutia noted that education remains the greatest gift that can be given to children and reaffirmed his commitment to uplifting vulnerable families across Kitui East through acts of compassion and practical support.
His pledge was warmly received by mourners, who applauded the gesture as one that would secure the future of the two children and ease the burden facing the grieving family.
As the late Hellen Ndungi Matuvi was laid to rest, mourners remembered her as a hardworking, dedicated and selfless teacher whose passion for education positively impacted many learners. They also called on security agencies to ensure justice is served by bringing those responsible for her murder to book.
