Kitui County has earned national recognition after being ranked among Kenya’s top ten counties in development spending during the 2024/2025 financial year. According to the ranking shown, Kitui recorded approximately KSh 3 billion in development expenditure, placing it among the country’s leading counties in implementation of development projects.
The achievement is a major milestone for Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, whose administration has continued to prioritize development through investments in infrastructure, healthcare, water, roads, education, and other essential public services aimed at improving the lives of Kitui residents.
Under Governor Malombe’s leadership, the county has maintained a strong focus on delivering projects that directly benefit wananchi, demonstrating prudent utilization of public resources despite the economic challenges facing county governments across the country.
The recognition also comes at a time when many counties have struggled to meet the legal threshold for development expenditure, making Kitui’s inclusion among the top performers an indication of its commitment to transforming the county through sustainable investment and service delivery.
Leaders and residents have welcomed the recognition, describing it as a reflection of Governor Malombe’s commitment to accountable leadership and people-centered development. They have expressed confidence that the county government will continue accelerating projects that enhance livelihoods, create opportunities, and promote inclusive growth across all parts of Kitui County.
As Kitui continues to earn national recognition for its development record, Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every development project delivers lasting benefits to the people, while strengthening the county’s position as one of Kenya’s leading performers in development.
