Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has raised fresh questions over the circumstances surrounding the killings of two professionals from the county, drawing parallels between the murder of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu and that of Dr Victoria Mutiso.
In a strongly worded statement shared on his Facebook platform, the governor questioned what he described as a possible deliberate effort to create alternative narratives around the deaths, particularly through allegations involving debts.
“The masterminds of Kyalo Mbobu’s gangland killing choreographed contrived stories of debt to cover their nefarious crime,” Mutula said, expressing his concern over how such narratives were allegedly developed and repeated in the media.
The governor further drew a comparison with the killing of Dr Mutiso, saying that the two professionals from Makueni were both gunned down in broad daylight in Nairobi within a period of about 12 months.
“I am still wondering how they managed to do this. Same script followed in the case of Dr Mutiso,” he stated.
Mutula’s remarks come amid continued public interest in the circumstances surrounding the two killings. Kyalo Mbobu, a prominent Nairobi lawyer, was shot dead in September 2025 in a daylight attack in Nairobi. Reports have indicated that investigators pursued different possible motives surrounding his killing.
Dr Victoria Mutiso, a clinical psychologist and mental-health researcher, was also killed in Nairobi, with reports subsequently linking her death to a long-standing land dispute.
The Makueni governor’s statement has therefore reignited questions about whether the circumstances surrounding the two deaths deserve deeper scrutiny and whether the motives established publicly so far tell the complete story.
Mutula concluded his message with a condemnation of the perpetrators and those he believes may have masterminded the killings.
“May the killers and masterminds never see peace!” he said.
The governor’s remarks are likely to fuel renewed calls for thorough and transparent investigations into the two cases, particularly as families and the wider Makueni community continue to seek justice.
