The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition has announced a major leadership shake-up, removing Junet Mohamed as the Leader of its Parliamentary Group (PG) in the National Assembly and appointing Caroli Omondi as his replacement with immediate effect.
In a statement released Monday, coalition leader Kalonzo Musyoka said the decision was reached during a joint meeting of the Coalition Council and the National Coalition Executive Council as part of ongoing internal restructuring within the alliance.
Musyoka explained that the meeting also resolved that several members had ceased to be part of the coalition’s top decision-making organs after either joining competing political coalitions or taking up public appointments.
Among those who have ceased to be members of the Azimio Coalition Council are Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho, nominated MP Sabina Chege, Abdi Noor Omar Farah, and Junet Mohamed.
The coalition further announced that a number of leaders had also exited the Azimio National Coalition Executive Council. Those listed include Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, Adan Keynan Wehliye, David Pkosing, Mishi Mboko, Abdul Haji, Junet Mohamed, James Opiyo Wandayi, Isabella Wangechi Githinji, Caroline Wanjiru Karugu and Solomon Kuria.
The coalition leadership indicated that the changes are part of a broader reorganisation aimed at strengthening the alliance and aligning its structures with the current political landscape.
Azimio said it will soon announce replacements for the vacant positions as it moves to expand and reconstitute its leadership structures.
The latest changes signal a significant shift within the opposition coalition as it seeks to consolidate its leadership and reposition itself ahead of future political engagements.
