Former CS Peninah Malonza Distributes More Water Tanks and Polypots to Kitui East

Former Cabinet Secretary for EAC, ASALs and Regional Development, Hon. Peninah Malonza, has continued her efforts to address water scarcity in Kitui East by distributing an additional 54 water tanks and 172 polypots.

This marks the third batch of distribution under her “Kila Nyumba Itangi” initiative, positioning Kitui East as the leading constituency both in this batch and overall with a record total of 130 water tanks and 172 polypots distributed so far.

Hon. Malonza commended the women SACCOs in Kitui East for their commitment, partnership, and cooperation in tackling water scarcity through household water harvesting.

The latest distribution coincides with the onset of the long rains, allowing beneficiaries to harvest and store water during this season.

Acknowledging the growing demand for water tanks, the former CS called on both the county and national governments, as well as philanthropists and development partners, to support the initiative and help scale it further.

Launched in September 2024, the Kila Nyumba Itangi program has so far distributed 550 water tanks and 1,200 polypots across the region. The initiative has not only enabled women to harvest water but has also empowered them to establish kitchen gardens, poultry projects, and small businesses, thanks to the time saved from fetching water over long distances.

The women of Kitui East expressed their gratitude to Hon. Malonza and vowed to reciprocate by supporting her bid for Kitui Governor in 2027.
