Former Kibwezi East parliamentary aspirant Willie Kioko Malile has declined a government appointment to the Council of Rongo University, sparking conversation within both political and academic circles.
Malile, who vied for the Kibwezi East parliamentary seat in the last general election, had been appointed by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba to serve as a member of the university council for a three-year term. The appointment was part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Education to strengthen governance in public universities through inclusion of experienced professionals and leaders.
However, speaking to Lower Eastern Digital Media, Malile confirmed that he had respectfully turned down the offer, citing other commitments and ongoing engagements.
“I have declined the appointment because I am currently busy and committed to other engagements,” Malile stated.
While he did not disclose specific details of his current activities, sources close to the former candidate indicate that he remains actively involved in community development initiatives and regional political strategy within Makueni County.
The Rongo University Council plays a crucial role in shaping institutional policy, overseeing resource allocation, and providing strategic leadership to the university. Malile’s rejection of the position signals a deliberate prioritization of his current path, possibly hinting at a continued political focus ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His decision adds a new layer to the evolving political dynamics in the Lower Eastern region as former aspirants and leaders begin realigning themselves for the future.
