Former Minister Penninah Malonza Distributes Water Tanks to Women Groups in Kitui West

Former Cabinet Minister Penninah Malonza on Thursday distributed water tanks to women groups at Tulia Grounds in Kitui West, in what she described as part of her long-standing commitment to addressing water scarcity in the county.

During the event, Malonza handed over 32 water tanks with a capacity of 2,500 litres each and 138 tanks of 25 litres to local women’s groups. She encouraged the beneficiaries to embrace savings and credit cooperative societies (SACCOs) as a way of strengthening their economic base and unlocking more opportunities for support.

“By joining SACCOs, women can pool resources, grow financially, and benefit more from initiatives like these,” Malonza said.

The former minister, who previously served as Deputy Governor of Kitui, noted that she has consistently championed efforts to fight water scarcity across the county. She emphasized that access to clean and reliable water remains one of the greatest challenges facing households in Kitui, particularly women who often bear the burden of fetching water.

Beneficiaries at the event praised Malonza for her continued dedication to grassroots development, describing her as a leader who has remained close to the people and their everyday struggles.

“Her efforts are changing lives, especially in rural areas where water scarcity has been a persistent problem,” said one of the women leaders present.

In her closing remarks, Malonza urged Kitui residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome President William Ruto during his visits to the county. She called on the people to seize such opportunities to collectively present their needs and push for greater development projects.

“Let us come together and show unity when the President visits. That way, we can ask for more projects and good things for our county,” she urged.

The water tanks distribution adds to a series of community initiatives Malonza has spearheaded in recent years, solidifying her reputation as a champion for improved water access and grassroots empowerment in Kitui.
